Hello and welcome! My name is Jason W. and this blog is dedicated to my pursuit to learn how to code. I was first exposed to coding via HTML way, way, way back in college in 2000. I loved it so much that I mostly self-taught myself HTML and I built small websites about myself and my friends on my school’s domain. To further date myself, post college I maintained a Geocities website for fun.
However, times moved on and many other things took priority over playing with HTML and maintaining a website just for fun. Most recently I operated an ecommerce business that ended this year in April 2016. From that experience I learned how far web design had come, you can’t really do much anymore just by knowing some HTML. In addition to HTML, you need to knowledge of CSS, JavaScript and maybe even more to build a functional, professional website for today.
What has driven me to this point? Going through the experience of paying web developers $50/hour, being forced to re-enter the workforce and work at a job I hate and having the knowledge that I have picked up coding on my own in the past. So, what is my goal? I turn 39 in less than 2 weeks and my goal is by my 40th birthday to be proficient enough to be qualified for an entry level position as a front-end web developer. To do so I think I would need to be extremely proficient in HTML and CSS, a good basis of knowledge in JavaScript and knowledge of SQL.
So…that’s the goal. Wish me luck!
